The Community Conservatory is the oldest and largest non-profit
community music school in Bucks County. The Conservatory was
founded in 1988 by Ms. Eleanor Gross. It had been her dream
for many years to start a school to provide high quality music instruction
for the residents of Bucks County and the surrounding Delaware Valley. She
gathered together a dedicated group of local musicians, music educators
and business leaders. The dream became reality when the Conservatory
opened for business in facilities provided by Delaware Valley College. Initial
offerings included private instruction in piano, organ, voice and
strings.
The Conservatory embarked upon a great start through the boundless
enthusiasm and
determination of Ms. Gross and the founding Board of directors. They
soon outgrew the space at the college. In 1991, our school moved
to a stone house located on Swamp Road in Plumstead Township. This
new home provided twice the space, allowing the conservatory
to grow over the next couple of years.
Through the quality of our instruction and the success of new
programs, the number of students continued to increase significantly.
This led to a need for larger accommodations.
As a result, in 1993 we moved into an elegant Victorian mansion
located in Doylestown which was owned by Salem United Church of
Christ, from whom we leased the building. In August 2005, we moved
to our new location at 4459 W. Swamp Road in Doylestown.
Today, the Conservatory, a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization, offers
a broad, high-quality
arts education and performance program in music, art, and drama.
We provide individual lessons, group classes, recitals, concerts,
ensembles, workshops, and community outreach
projects. We serve the surrounding communities in Bucks and Montgomery
Counties and
New Jersey. The Conservatory is a Certified Member of the National
Guild of Community
Schools of the Arts, the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce, the
Doylestown Business and Community Alliance, and the Arts and Business
Council of Greater Philadelphia.
