Joy Keener
Joy Keener attended Juniata College where she studied Music Education. She graduated from Pittsburgh Musical Institute with a BA degree in Vocal performance. Joy studied opera and theatre at Chatham College in Pittsburgh with Boris Goldovsky and studied voice with Robert Topping of Pittsburgh, Margaret Keiser of Philadelphia and Elsa Bakior at Peabody Conservatory. Joy has also done graduate work at Westminster Choir College in choral conducting with Robert Shaw and Joseph Flumerfeld. Professionally Joy has performed at Allenberry Equity Theatre Summer musicals for nine years, Philadelphia Oratorio Society, Mendelssohn Club, and has performed as soloist with the Delaware Valley Symphony Orchestra, Bucks County Symphony, and Warminster Symphony,. Joy has also performed in solo concerts in Pennsylvania , New Jersey,New York, and at the National Gallery of Arts in Washington, D.C.. European tours have taken her to Germany, Austria and Italy where she had the privilege of singing for Pope John at a Sunday Mass in Rome. Joy has also given many concerts in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area. She was a semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. Her opera and theater rolls include Mimi, (La Boheme), Micaela, (Carmen), Suzanna, (The Marriage of Figaro), Suor Angelica,and Sister Docina, (Suor Angelica), Mother, (Amahi and the Night Visitors),Marietta,(Naughty Marietta), Nina, (Firefly), Sara, (Guys and Dolls)Lola,Cavalleria Rusticana). Joy not only has taught music in Mechanicsburg, Camp Hill, and Central Bucks school districts, but has been Soprano section leader in churches in Pittsburgh, Camp Hill and Philadelphia area as well as Music Director in several area churches, and is presently the Soprano section leader at The Church of The Messiah in Gwynedd. Joy teaches voice and is the director of The Montco Senior Concert Choir of Norristown and directs a resident choir at Lakeview in Doylestown. |
